Leland Blue but black brooch

Leland Blue , or in this case black is one of my favorite stones. It  is created from waste that was dumped into the great Lakes almost 100 years ago. The hot iron ore or other waste material solidified when it hit the water. These rocks are then cut and polished by lapidary artists.

This black Leland blue stone measures 2 inches in length and just over 1/2 inch wide. It has been prong set in sterling silver and features 3  sterling silver cast elements, a bleeding heart, a piece of juniper and small succulent pod.

A unique and lovely brooch.
