Petosky Stone Pendent Necklace

This is a simple necklace featuring a riveted Petosky Stone from Lake Michigan hanging from a 16inch oxidized box chain with lobster clasp. This Petosky stone is a very dark brown with lots of detail.

For those of you who are not familiar with Petosky stones, here is their history.

A Petoskey Stone which is from fossilized coral from about 350 million years ago.

Petosky stones are a result of glaciation where the ice sheets plucked the stones from the bedrock and ground off the rough edges.

They were then deposited in Michigan’s upper and northwestern peninsula.

Petoskey Stones  exhibit the distinct mottled patterns of the coral fossils.

The word Petoskey  is a Native American Indian word that means ‘Rays of the Living Sun’.

In 1965 the Petoskey Stone was named the state stone of Michigan .

If you are a Michigan fan this is the necklace for you.
